FIRST ATTEMPT
Trial & error; error and trial...
This was my very first painting from May of 2020. I was so frustrated with how it turned out that I almost quit. When I was a kid, I was always drawn to art, especially artists such as Bob Ross or Bill Alexander, artists that painted the alla prima (first attempt) method, otherwise known as wet-on-wet. But I knew nothing about creating art.
Everyone struggles with a learning curve when they try something new, and I was no different. I can only draw stick figures! During my course of trial and error, I bought a cheap easel that always fell. I remember days during the summer when I would try to paint outside, and the sprinkler system would turn on and knock it over and get everything wet.
I have lost brushes from not cleaning them properly and expensive ones too. There were many days I thought about hanging it up. But inspiration kept rising back up. Now this has become my passion and my joy and I thank Jesus for this gift, this outlet, this hobby… Life sometimes has a way of dragging a person down and can depress us if we let it. But through the storms and discouragement, God gave me a light that I could focus on. I pray that He somehow uses this outlet to inspire and bless others.
